La Chambre aux Oiseaux : A girly brunch in Paris

« La Chamber aux Oiseaux », just the name of this restaurant sounds cute…

I have been there twice in my life and I loved it, if it was closer to my place I would go there more often but I am sometimes way too lazy. It is located in the 10th district of Paris by the Canal St-Martin.

This place is more of a breafkast, brunch or tea room type of restaurant, it is only opened from 10 am until 6 pm.

The decor is very cosy and girl made with Art Déco & Art Nouveau antique furniture, it really gives a homely feeling. Dishes are served in flowery china that looks like your grand-mother’s.

The room is very small so you MUST reserve your table for a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, also try to book at least a week in advance.

I have only tried the brunch twice, almost two years ago it was 19€ as the place is now well-known for its brunch it’s about 23€ but it is still pretty cheap for a brunch in Paris. To start they bring you a bread basket of different kinds such as brioche, nut bread, baguette, brown bread etc… You can ask them to refill it as many time as you want, the bread is served with different sorts of jam already placed on your table. Then the main arrive and you realize you have ate too much bread and you are no longer hungry :p The main dish is made with ham, cheese, egg, salad and the recipe of the moment. Two years ago I had vegetarian lasagna, last time I had sweet potato and goat cheese wrap. Also regarding the hot beverage you choose what ever you want from the menu, not like in most places where you can only choose a filter coffee or a tea. Here you can have a cappuccino, a hot chocolate or anything else if you like. Personnally I always have the Chaï Latte, it is one of the best I have had, and it does look like it is made with authentic tea and not made with a Chaï flavoured syrup. You can also choose a fresh orange or lemon juice. Then for the sweet teeth comes the dessert and you can choose from their menu, I heard their carrot cake is amazing however I have never had the chance to see it on the menu. The poppy seed and lemon cake did its job too though.

Conclusion : I highly recommend this place, especially on a sunny Sunday so you can digest your brunch with a walk by the Canal St-Martin, probably not the best place to bring the boys as they will be frustrated not to have a real chunky meal but if you are into organic brunches then it’s the place for you.
